Section 508 Compliance

Section 508 Compliance for Federal Contractors and Agencies

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires federal agencies and their contractors to make electronic and information technology accessible. We help organizations meet those requirements with audits, remediation, and accessible development aligned to both Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA.

What Section 508 Requires

Section 508 applies to all federal agencies purchasing or developing electronic and information technology — including websites, web applications, and procurement portals. Contractors delivering digital products under federal contracts must also meet these standards. Non-compliance can block contract awards, trigger complaints, and result in contract termination.

Section 508 vs. WCAG — What's the Difference?

Section 508 was updated in 2018 to incorporate WCAG 2.0 AA by reference. While the regulation text references WCAG 2.0, current federal agency practice and enforcement trends have moved toward expecting WCAG 2.1 AA as a practical minimum — and we deliver to WCAG 2.2 AA as the current technical benchmark. In short: if you meet WCAG 2.2 AA, you satisfy Section 508.
